KABUL - Inayatullah Nazari was appointed as acting defence minister in compliance with a decree from President Hamid Karzai on Wednesday, the Cabinet Secretariat said.
A statement from the secretariat said deputy Nazari, who was previously deputy defence minister, was given acting charge in line with Karzai’s orders. Nazari will look after the ministry affairs till the appointment of a new defence minister.
With President Hamid Karzai still looking for his replacement, Gen. Abdul Rahim on Tuesday announced his resignation as acting defence minister at a news conference in Kabul.
Wardak said that he fully respected the parliament’s vote of no-confidence in him and was, therefore, quitting his post. “I’m very grateful to the president for reposing his confidence in me and giving me the important assignment of reconstructing Afghan security forces.”
