KABUL - Afghan police and international troops raided a bomb-making factory in the capital Kabul, NATO-led peacekeepers said Sunday, making one arrest.
The raid in the early hours early of Friday morning netted timers, detonators and enough explosives to make up to 20 bombs, said Cdr. Chris Henderson, a spokesman for the NATO-led force.
City police made the arrest while peacekeepers provided a security cordon around the site at the foot of a steep hill in downtown Kabul, he said. There were no reported injuries.
"This was a significant find and the material seized indicated clear technical proficiency in the manufacturing of explosive devices," Henderson said.
Henderson gave no information on the identity or affiliation of the person arrested, saying it was still under investigation.
Kabul police officials had no immediate comment.
Henderson said authorities presumed the bombs were for use against targets within the city, but had no details.
