Pajhwok05/15/2008By Mustafa Basharat [Printer Friendly Version] KABUL - With 30 new power generators in next three months in Kandahar city of southern Kandahar province, the number of people who will have access to power will reach 40000. The contract of purchasing and installing the generators was inked by Muhammad Ismail, minister for energy and water, Asadullah Khalid, Kandahar governor and Abdul Ghafar, head of a private company in Kabul on Sunday. The minister for energy and water said the total cost of the project is $5.7 million. He said $4.6 million is paid by finance ministry and the rest will be provided from Kandahar revenue. He added the private company will install the generators in next three months which will provide 22 mega watt powers. Muhammad Ismail said currently 12 mega watts power was available from generators and 4 mega watts from Kajaki dame of Helmand province to Kandahar city which was used for government offices and some residential areas.
