PAROON - Several development projects were launched on Saturday with a total funding of approximately $0.5 millions in the northeastern Nuristan province.
A statement from the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) said the projects included construction of 20-km long local roads, six water supply ventures and construction of four schools and a hospital.
The statement said the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has provided $522790 for these projects.
Head of the rural rehabilitation and development department in Nuristan Engineer Ahmad Shakir told Pajhwok Afghan News the roads were being built near the provincial capital Paroon, in Waigal village.
The water supply systems would be built in schools and hospitals in Paroon, said Shakir.
He said his department has also recently started reconstruction of a 50-km long road in villages around Paroon providing jobs for people in return for food.
Some 1200 people engaged in the work will get 327 tons of food for their work.
Local residents have appreciated these development projects and described them important for uplifting of their living conditions.
Dozen reconstruction schemes executed in Nuristan
A dozen reconstruction projects have been completed under the National Solidarity Program (NSP) in the eastern Nuristan province, an official said.
All the reconstruction projects have been executed in Dawab, Noor Gram and Bargimatal district, Eng. Muhammad Esa Wahdat, the regional director for NSP said. He told Pajhwok Afghan News the projects costing eight million US dollars will benefit over 200 families.
The projects including small bridges, reconstruction of roads, provision piped water to the area people, sewing courses for the poor women and widows and construction of supportive wall have been completed in six months.
Abdul Hamid expressing happiness about construction of a small bridge in their area by the NSP in Bargimatal district said they have lost a number of sheep while the water increased in the canal during the heavy rains.
