A statement from the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) said the projects included construction of 20-km long local roads, six water supply ventures and construction of four schools and a hospital.

The statement said the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has provided $522790 for these projects.

Head of the rural rehabilitation and development department in Nuristan Engineer Ahmad Shakir told Pajhwok Afghan News the roads were being built near the provincial capital Paroon, in Waigal village.

The water supply systems would be built in schools and hospitals in Paroon, said Shakir.

He said his department has also recently started reconstruction of a 50-km long road in villages around Paroon providing jobs for people in return for food.

Some 1200 people engaged in the work will get 327 tons of food for their work.

Local residents have appreciated these development projects and described them important for uplifting of their living conditions.
