The rebuilding of Afghanistan following recent United States military action will include the establishment of two textile parks, the country’s finance minister said on Saturday.
According to Ashraf Ghani, the parks would be similar to their Jordanian counterparts, whereby Afghanistan will receive concessions on custom duty and the award of special quotas for textile exports to the US.
Ghani said the parks would be set up in Jalalabad and Qandahar.
“US$5 billion will be spent on the reconstruction of Afghanistan, paving the way of transportation of CIS cotton through Afghanistan to Pakistan,” he added.
The plans were revealed in a meeting between Ghani and M Wagar Monnoo, the chairman of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association, in Karachi.
