PNS07/29/2010By [Printer Friendly Version] ISLAMABAD - Pakistan has termed Afghan Presidents remarks about tougher western action against militant sanctuaries inside the country as "incomprehensible" and sought clarification. "We have asked our ambassador in Kabul to seek clarification as to why these remarks have been made," said Foreign Office spokesman, Abdul Basit, while talking to newsmen here on Thursday. He was responding to questions about remarks made by President Hamid Karzai and his National Security Adviser Rangeen Dadfar Spanta. President Karzai without mentioning Pakistan had said that the war against terrorism was a war in the sanctuaries, funding centers and training places of terrorism which are outside Afghanistan. The spokesman questioned as to why Afghanistan does not take action against them. He said that "whether we are able to destroy these sanctuaries or not is another question. We will try what we can. Our international allies have this ability." However, he added, "but the question is why they are not doing it?" Despite repeated denials, Pakistan has been consistently accused of harboring militant sanctuaries and its intelligence agency has been blamed of supporting Taliban elements.
