KABUL - An Afghan presidential candidate Abdul Majid Samim quit the race in favor of sitting President Hamid Karzai on Monday, a private television channel reported.
"Presidential candidate Abdul Majid Samim withdrew in favor of incumbent President Hamid Karzai and asked his supporters to cast their vote for his re-election," Tolo aired in its bulletin.
This is the third candidate who quitted the presidential contest to support sitting Karzai.
Previously two more candidates, Baz Mohammad Kufi and Mohammad Sayed Hashimi, have withdrawn in Karzai's favor while another stepped down in favor of Karzai's main rival Abdullah Abdullah.
Afghanistan's second presidential polls scheduled for Aug. 20 will be held amid tight security as Taliban militants vowed to derail the process.
